CURRICULUM
At Shireland Biomedical UTC, while we are proud of our specialism in health sciences, it is important to remember that we are also a normal secondary school. We follow the full National Curriculum, which includes physical education as a core part of student life.
It is a common misconception that our specialist focus means PE is not offered. In reality, our students benefit from a structured and varied PE curriculum, supported by brand new, purpose-built sports facilities.
We share a dedicated sports hall, activity studio and outdoor multi-use games area (MUGA) with our partner school, located on Providence Place in West Bromwich, just a short walk from the main school building. Students are always escorted by staff to and from the site to ensure their safety and supervision.
These facilities support a wide range of sporting activities, both during curriculum time and as part of our enrichment programme. Sport plays a vital role in promoting students’ physical wellbeing, resilience and confidence.
Families can usually view these facilities during our open events in September, which are aimed at those applying for year 7 entry the following year. Sixth form open events take place throughout the year and include opportunities to learn more about our sports provision.
