Prospective sixth form students and their families are being invited to explore Shireland Biomedical UTC and its post-16 provision at its upcoming Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday 19 November 2026 from 4.30pm to 7.00pm.
Visitors will be able to tour the Academy, meet teaching staff and current students, and find out more about the A level and vocational courses available for September 2027 entry. Students can also explore dedicated pathways delivered in partnership with Birmingham City University.
The UTC specialises in healthcare and science, combining academic study with practical learning to give students an insight into the skills, knowledge and environments associated with the careers they may go on to pursue.
Its specialist facilities include a fully equipped mock hospital ward and simulation space, where students can develop practical skills alongside their academic studies. This provides valuable experience for students considering a wide array of careers including nursing, midwifery, paramedic care, education and other wider professions.
Alongside their studies, students have access to a range of additional opportunities to build their skills and experience beyond the classroom. These include the timetabled Futures Programme, which prepares students for careers, university and life beyond sixth form. Students can also gain additional qualifications, take part in the NHS Cadets Programme and develop their leadership skills through initiatives such as Mental Health Ambassadors.
Links with universities and employers also form part of the sixth form experience. Partnerships, including with Birmingham City University, provide opportunities for mentoring, work placements and simulation days, helping students to gain a better understanding of the routes available after sixth form.
