Maths A Level
Why Maths?
The course allows you to build on your previous understanding of Mathematics from GCSE.
You will expand your knowledge of Mathematics on algebra and functions and will learn to use Mathematics in the real world by studying mechanics and statistics. All these elements of the course make it applicable to almost any future career you might be considering.
The modules covered in this course will also help you with other A Level courses such as biology, chemistry and physics.
Entry requirements
- GCSE English level: 4
- GCSE Maths level: 6
- Other requirements: none.
Structure of the course
The course consists of three written papers that will be taken at the end of Year 13.
- Paper 1: Pure Mathematics 1 – 2-hour exam
- Paper 2: Pure Mathematics 2 – 2-hour exam
- Paper 3: Statistics and Mechanics – 2-hour exam.

There are many careers you can go into with a Mathematics A Level. Those that pursue a degree involving Mathematics are very likely to earn more.
