Shireland Biomedical UTC is excited to announce that it will be opening its doors to prospective students and their families for its upcoming open event on Thursday 17 September 2026, from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. No booking required.
The event offers an early opportunity for families to explore the Academy for Year 7 entry, starting September 2027. Visitors will be able to tour the Academy’s subject department and cutting-edge facilities, speak directly with staff and students about academy life and meet the Principal.
Shireland Biomedical UTC is committed to helping students fulfil their potential by combining rigorous academic study with hands-on, practical experiences. As the first University Technical College in the UK to specialise in health and medical sciences, the Academy goes beyond traditional classroom learning. Students benefit from hands-on, practical experiences that bring classroom concepts to life, helping young people build the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to thrive throughout secondary school and beyond.
Principal Gulfam Shahzad said: “At Shireland Biomedical UTC, every student is encouraged to ask questions, get hands-on with their learning, and take pride in what they achieve. Our focus on practical science, problem-solving and collaboration is just one part of a wider culture where curiosity, confidence and support are at the heart of everything we do. Open events give families the chance to see that culture in action and meet the students and staff who make our Academy such a welcoming place to learn.”
Families are advised to arrive early, allowing ample time to get the most of their visit and help make the right, informed decision for their child’s education.
The Academy will also be hosting open mornings on Saturday 19 September 2026, from 10:00am – 1:00pm and on Saturday 24 October 2026, from 10:00am – 12:00pm.
Applications for parents applying for secondary school places through Sandwell open in July 2026 and Dudley in September 2026.From this date, parents of children moving into Year 7 will be able to apply for their place via their local authority.
