Madam Mayor Visits Shireland Biomedical UTC to Celebrate British Values

Last term, Shireland Biomedical UTC had the pleasure of welcoming Madam Mayor Cllr Syeda Khatun, Mayor of Sandwell, accompanied by local councillors, for an inspiring evening that underscored the school’s commitment to British Values.

The event commenced with a dinner that brought together young people and their families in a warm and inclusive setting. This gathering created a platform for meaningful dialogue, fostering a strong sense of community. It also allowed students and their families the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with the Mayor and councillors, promoting the democratic value of participation in civic life.

The Mayor and fellow guests were then given a tour of the school’s facilities, where Shireland Biomedical UTC showcased its dedication to promoting British Values in practice. This included the Academy’s inclusive classrooms and diverse curriculum, highlighting its commitment to tolerance, mutual respect, and the celebration of different faiths and beliefs.

The visit was a powerful opportunity for students to witness these values in action and understand their significance in building a cohesive and respectful society. Events like this underline Shireland Biomedical UTC’s mission to nurture an inclusive and democratic environment where every student can thrive.

The Academy remains committed to creating respectful and inclusive experiences that prepare students to be active, thoughtful citizens of a diverse society.
